Chi On A Dime has paired up with local fashion resource Garmental’s Style Expert Suzanne Kopulos to bring you “beat the cold” trends at a wallet-friendly price. Her combination of textures in the look below is uber chic – and, lucky for us, the entire looks totals up at under $150!
Stay warm and cozy while completely on trend with a cable knit sweater tunic from H&M. Top with a luxe faux fur snood – they’re having a serious fashion moment, and are no longer just for outdoors. Add some edge with a great faux leather legging that will easily transition from day to night when combined with other pieces from your closet. Pair with a heavy duty snow boot, and you’re ready to face the elements.
Suzanne also shared her best budget-friendly tips for building a winter wardrobe:
“Invest in key neutral accessories that you can wear over and over again– tones like tan and black are always chic, and can been worn with everything. Examples include burnt orange leather gloves, a black infinity scarf and tan or black riding boots. You can also make the warm-weather clothes you already own cold weather friendly. Throw a pair of tights on with your dresses, add a big, cozy scarf, wear a cardigan/sweater over your sleeveless tops, pair a chic simple long sleeve shirt under your favorite strapless dresses and wear tights under jeans and pants, making open toed heels wearable year round.”

While many fear the onset of winter, November and December have always been two of my favorite months. I love the festive holiday cheer of hot chocolate, Christmas lights and plenty of holiday parties to attend.
The holiday season is one of Chicago’s finest, providing tons of fun, free events for people of all ages. Although Chicago can get pretty (read: extremely) cold this time of year, there will be no shortage of people out and about when our favorite city transforms into a winter wonderland.
This upcoming weekend marks the opening weekend of ice skating in Millenium Park (#2) and the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival (#1). Ice skating with friends and family is one of my best winter memories, and I can’t wait to get out on the ice. On Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Michigan Avenue will be officially lit for the season, so join hundreds of other Chicagoans to celebrate this annual event. (Skating is free – you only pay for skate rental.)
Last, but definitely not least, Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo (#3) opens this Thanksgiving. The park turns from ordinary zoo to holiday haven and is one of my most favorite things about the holiday season! Get out and help spread the holiday cheer by participating in one of the many activities the city has to offer.

Wind and snow make for more than great skiing. They also lead to dry, cracked skin, and a pasty complexion. Check out the three deals below that can preempt the low temps and save your skin – for a steal.
Book a spa appointment online at Exhale Spa in November and receive 25 percent off your purchase. That means a “True” 60 minute facial is only $108, normally $145.
Purchase a heavy-duty moisturizer from Beauty.com this week to receive 20 percent off your order. Try Philosophy’s “Hope in a Jar Extra-Rich Moisturizer” to reduce environmental damage and restore skin’s oil balance.
Finally, get your glow on at Ortanic’s FFC Gold Coast location. They’re celebrating their one-year anniversary since opening, and are offering $30 custom airbrush tans to all customers throughout November.
