If you haven’t booked a trip yet, don’t worry, there’s plenty to keep you busy right here in the Windy City all summer long. We’ve again partnered with Gilt City ’s Chicago Curator Nicole Banks to share a few of her picks for enjoying Chicago’s fun, food and festivals on a dime.
Fun
Relax in the sun at North Avenue Beach. For a more active pursuit, rent bikes at North Ave.’s Bike and Roll. Go on a Tuesday and rentals are half-off, or visit between 5-8PM on a Thursday to rent a bike for only $5.

Next, check out Millennium Park’s lineup of free concerts and exercise classes which run all summer long. While you’re there, stroll around the Cloud Gate, Buckingham Fountain and Grant Park. Free, free and free.
Visit the Green City Market, my personal favorite, to sample the freshest produce and watch awesome chef demos.
Food
Food Trucks are a great addition to Chicago’s food scene. Visit Food Truck Freak to learn about and locate 56 of the city’s best food trucks. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the Chicago Foodie scene and get the most bang for your buck. Gilt City’s and COAD’s best bets: apps at Big Star, dinner with Lillie’s Q and dessert at Forever Yogurt.

Festivals
Festivals are a big part of what makes Chicago summers so special. From the Taste of Chicago (July 11-15) to Lollapalooza (August 3-5), there is truly something for every taste. It is hard to choose a favorite, but Wells Street Art Festival (June 9-10), Sheffield Garden Walk & Festival (July 21-22) and Taste of Randolph Steet (June 15-17) are among my top picks.

Don’t forget about Chicago Pride Fest (June 22-23), Craft Beer Festival (June 29-July 1) and venture further north and enjoy an outdoor concert at Ravinia Festival (see site for details).
Keep up with Gilt City Chicago for the latest deals in Chicago!
