Summer Festivals: Old Town Art Fair

Summer is finally here, and that means so are street festivals, outdoor concerts, farmer markets and art fairs. This weekend,  June 9th and 10th, the Old Town Art Fair will be in full effect from 10am – 8pm on Saturday and 10am – 6pm on Sunday.  The main gate is located at Lincoln Avenue and Wisconsin Street.

This particular fair brings artists, jewelers and foodies from all over together, and is topped off with bands and feel-good music. Last year I indulged in some local eats, beautifully unique piece from Jules, sold at CityBlue and a throwback ‘Beatles” concert. This year you will find the “Gallery of Gardens (a garden walk through more than 50 urban home gardens)”, a music stage featuring local talent, a children’s corner offering arts and crafts activities, and a food court populated by local eateries.”  All donations are raised for improved living, working and recreational conditions in the area. (The requested donation is $7.00.)

Get outside and enjoy all that this amazing city has to offer!

My go-to this summer is the maxi. This past mother’s day I wore my recently purchased green maxi dress – no one believed it was from Old Navy, for only $29! It’s a fashionable and fitting cut that can be dressed up or down for any occasion.

Above are some of my favorites this season. One of my favorites are the uniquely-cut chiffon maxi dresses and skirts from TopShop. Others include FELICITY & COCO’s Belted Jersey Maxi Dress and Joie’s Griffin Maxi Skirt.

This MAC ‘Viva Glam Nicki” lipstick is my new favorite lipstick that supports an unbeatable cause. “Every cent from the sale goes toward helping women, men and children living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. Limited Edition.” I can’t get enough of it! – Molly

I’m not a huge fan of plain water, and drink cases of LaCroix and Pellegrino to stay hydrated – an expensive habit. I recently received a SodaStream Soda Maker so I can make my flavored carbonated water, which saves money and environmental waste.  -Megan

After spending eight days in Israel, I can’t believe I’m still craving hummus. My favorite find is Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Hummus. Its perfect paired with veggies, pita, crackers or even on its own – and it’s a serious crowd pleaser at parties. -Abby

An on-the-go favorite of mine is rollerball perfume. They’re perfect for traveling and for freshening up at work or out on the town. Slip them into your purse, and roll onto your wrist without dousing the whole room in your scent. For about $25 per bottle, they’ll last for some time! -Molly

Benefit Cosmetics has so many great services and products at their boutiques, but my favorite find is their BADgal Lash Mascara. For only $19 for a large and $10 for a travel-size, no girl should leave the house without it. It makes my lashes look voluminous – perfect for a night out in the city. -Abby

Every day, 4,100 children die of water-related diseases. Nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water.

Join us at Citizen Bar, March 10th from 8pm to 11pm CST to help the unicef tap project in raising funds to help communities build and sustain access to clean water. For every wristband sold, $10 will be donated to the unicef united states fund – $10 that can provide one person clean access to water for 400 days.

Molly: I’m obsessed with the Pomagranate Splash daily moisturizer from the Qtica Smart Spa line. The lotion not only smells good, but it also leaves your skin feeling fresh out of the spa. For only $16, I just can’t get enough!

Megan: Whether I’m squeezing into a bowl of oatmeal or satisfying a craving for not-as-healthy Nutella, I probably use one packet of Justin’s Nut Butter every day. Toss the Chocolate Almond flavor into a blender with almond milk, cinnamon, frozen banana and ice for a healthy shake – delicious.
